We had a great time on the trip to Mexico. The Royal in Playa Del Carmen was very nice. We ate at all of the restaurants in the hotel and both liked the 'Asiana' restaurant the most. The food was good at all the others too. The only confusing thing at some of the restaurants was that they included prices next to all of the items, which made us think that maybe it wasn't included with our package. We asked and they said that they include the prices for people that aren't staying at the hotel but choose to eat there. We never had any issues with this, it was just confusing at first.
We spent most of the trip relaxing by the pool and beach. Loved that there were multiple pools on the property so that you could jump from one to the other if one was more crowded. We also used the spa at the resort for massages and facials and had a really good experience. The couples massage was really nice and not too expensive and my wife enjoyed her facial as well. Would definitely recommend to others.
The room was very nice. I know we talked about it when we originally booked the trip, but I would have to say that I disagree with their classification of our room being an ocean view. Really the only way to see the ocean is if you went onto the balcony and leaned over. Our room did over look the main pool which was nice, but don't know if its worth the extra money to pay for the ocean view room, especially based on the time you are actually in the room.
Other than that, they did a good job making up the room everyday and we felt like it was a very high end looking suite. We didn't have any issues with the transportation to and from the airport. It was easy to find them at the airport and they picked us up on time at the hotel to head back to the airport. If we were to plan another trip to Mexico or the Caribbean in general, we would probably try to go earlier in the year to avoid the hurricane/rain season. The forecast while we were there called for 40-50% chances of rain for a lot of the days. We lucked out and only had a few quick showers come through, but it could have been worse.
Overall, we would definitely go back to this hotel again. We liked it a lot more than the Riu that we stayed at in Costa Rica. I'm sure we will be wanting to plan another trip for the early part of next year, so I will definitely be in touch.
