When you get your first glimpse of Cancun as you are approaching the airport your heart will leap with excitement by the extraordinary palette of blues in the ocean and contrasting white beaches. No wonder so many beach lovers flock to this awesome destination.

An understatement is nightlife in Cancun is exciting. This place simply rocks out! You can dance until you drop to great bands playing all night. Cancun nightlife is definitely not for the lighthearted.

As the founder of www.Travelwizard.com I get to explore and enjoy all the vacation destinations we send our clients to, and experience all the upscale hotels first hand. It's important to know which hotels are suitable for our sophisticated clientele. I can confidently say that there are more great hotels in the Mayan Riviera than you could imagine, from glitzy five star beach resorts to hidden romantic getaways and even ultra-luxurious all inclusive resorts. The trick is knowing the properties well enough to match our clients to the hotel that suits them perfectly.

There's a lot of choices and things to take into consideration when choosing the hotel that's perfect for you. For instance, the location of the hotel, some face north and lose the sun in the afternoon, good for those with fair skin, but disappointing for those expecting the sun all day.

It's also important to understand the personality of the hotels, some all inclusive resorts are crowded with low budget junkets of bawdy, boozing Europeans that are quite rowdy all day and night enjoying all the free liqueur they can consume. Please note, I have nothing against this type of fun lovers. However, a family group would be very disappointing in this type of hotel, but frequently make the mistake of booking one of these hotel simply by looking for the cheapest hotels on-line. This is an instance where a professional travel advisor can avoid this kind of disaster.

A great place for family vacations in the Mayan Riviera is the Xcaret Eco Theme Park near Playa del Carmen. Here the whole family can spend day playing with dolphins, exploring the zoo and even snorkeling through an amazing underground cave where you enter an inland cenote, ( a large whole in the ground ) and snorkel through a natural cave out to the lagoon on the coast. There is loads of entertainment, zip lines, good food and lots more family attractions. Plan a full day here.

Playa del Carmen is my favorite place in the Mayan Riviera because of the laid back atmosphere, the awesome restaurants and the shopping. The beach is beautiful but don't be shocked to see topless bathers. Here you'll run into more sophisticated European and South American vacationers.

Another great place to visit is the Mayan Ruins of Tulum and the gorgeous beaches around there. The aquamarine color of the seas here is dazzling and a beautiful place to take photographs. Plan a full day here as it takes a while to get drive to the ruins from Playa del Carmen.
